The 2019 NYC Web Fest (NYCWF) Award Winners have now been announced, and we’re excited to have the list for you all. Canada’s Home turf (La Maison des Folles) won Best Web Series while New York’s Tuesday Nights and Darcy on House Arrest from Los Angeles landed two awards each.
Home turf (La Maison des Folles) is the first non-American series to win the prestigious award, Best Web Series, to which they won a prize-pack from streaming service Mubi, which included a free one-year subscription. On top of winning Best Web Series, lead actress Sarah Cantin also won the Best Actress Award for her performance. Talking about Home turf (La Maison des Folles), founder and festival director, Lauren Atkins, said: “Home turf captivates from beginning to end, their creator and director Mara Joly told a beautiful character-driven story with stunning performances. We were shocked to find out that it was many of the actors’ first time in front of a camera.”
The sixth annual NYC Web Fest took place in at Stonestreet Studios, Manhattan, on October 4-6, 2019. They were also the sponsor of the festival weekend. “Stonestreet’s facility was perfect for this festival,” said Atkins. “Their staff was so welcoming, their interns were helpful, plus they had a great screening and informative panel that our audience enjoyed.”
Tuesday Nights, which won for Best Dramedy, featured Victor Williams from the long-running television series King of Queens. Williams won the award for Special Guest Star. Darcy on House Arrest’s Trevor Dow won for Best Actor, and its creator Heidi Weitzer, won the Best Director Prize. Weitzer was one of three women nominated in the category.
NYCWF’s weekend included a Writing Workshop with Misha Calvert and a Pitching to TV Networks Workshop by Jamie Monahan. Creators also learned valuable insights from television executives Evan Shapiro, Frank Fernandez, Robin C. Adams, and founders of the Women’s Weekend Challenge – Katrina Medoff & Tracy Sayre. The final industry panel of the weekend discussed writing for Digital versus TV and featured nominees 2019 Joanna Pickering and Misha Calvert, as well as Situationships’ Cylla Senii and Micharne Cloughley of Law & Order SVU.
