ABC’s Castle has been cancelled.

It was announced this week that the much loved ABC drama “Castle” has been cancelled.

“Castle” which has run for eight seasons will not be back for a ninth, it comes on the back of the news that female lead Stana Katic  and show regular   Tamala Jones were  leaving the show.

“Castle” was created by Andrew Marlowe. The series  had numerous show runners with David Amann taking over for just Seven 7, and then Alexi Hawley and Terence Paul Winter stepping in for Season 8. Marlowe remained close to the show, after he stepped down as show runner.

The season finale which airs  next week on May 16  in the US will serve as the series finale.

The shows stars have taken to social media to react to the news of the cancellation and thank the fans for eight years of support.

Nathan Fillion took to twitter:

Stana Katic shared a personal hand written note which was addressed to “Castle” fans, cast and crew.

“Your devotion to our show has carried us for these unforgettable 8 seasons,” she wrote. “I’m lucky to have met and worked with and for the lot of you. I will always be grateful.”
