ALBUM REVIEW: Joe McElderry’s ‘Saturday Night at the Movies’

After five years Joe McElderry is back with a brand new album; ‘Saturday Night at the Movies‘. The LP features the 2009 X Factor champion singing covers of songs from classic movies such as Dirty Dancing, Armageddon, and Carousel.

Now much more classically focused rather than pop, Joe’s vocals sound sublime as he takes on hits such as ‘Everything I Do, I Do It For You’, ‘I’ve Had The Time Of My Life’, and ‘Don’t Wanna Miss A Thing’.

During the songs Joe McElderry manages to put his own unique spin on them while still maintaining the classic feel. There’s no denying that in terms of pure vocal ability the South Shields singer is the most talented to ever come of The X Factor, and with this mix of amazing covers he has proved it once again.

Obviously after five years it would have been nice to have a full studio album with all brand new songs, as ‘Saturday Night at the Movies’ only features one original song; the stunning ‘Gloria‘. But as covers album’s go this is probably one of the best around.

The standout on the LP is McElderry’s brilliant cover of Aerosmith’s hit ‘Don’t Wanna Miss A Thing’. His vocals really stand out and the operatic tone really adds another level to the rock classic.

    RATING: 4.5/5
