Irish quartet Picture This – comprising of members Ryan Hennessy (guitar/vocals), Jimmy Rainsford (drums), Owen Cardiff (guitar) and Cliff Deane (bass) – recently unveiled their second album, titled ‘MDRN LV,’ featuring twelve exceptional tracks. In addition to captivating vocals, the album also showcases the band’s musical abilities.

Since the launch of their debut album in 2017, Picture This have continued to go from strength to strength. The release of the ‘MDRN LV’ album marks the beginning of what is set to be an incredibly successful era for the band, with an upcoming world tour, including a sold-out five-night stint at Dublin’s 3Arena.

Here at CelebMix, we have reviewed Picture This’ ‘MDRN LV’ album. Make sure you keep reading to check out our review!

Throughout the ‘MDRN LV’ album, Picture This take listeners on a beautiful journey regarding the theme of modern love. This is well reflected with ‘Modern Love,’ the perfect opening track to the album, which helps set the precedent for the remainder of the album and introduces listeners to the band’s new sound.

The track truly reflects the sentiments shared on a poignant Instagram post in 2018, with frontman Ryan Hennessy describing modern love as “the colour that was missing from those old black and white movies, a late night text that jerks your heart into action and leaves your head at home, when you run into the arms of somebody who has hurt you so much, but has loved you even harder.”

‘If You Wanna Be Loved’ and ‘One Drink’ were released prior to the release of the album, with ‘One Drink’ being the leading single from the album, which represented the band’s new sound, which has been well received by their dedicated and continually growing legion of supporters worldwide. You can watch the official music video for ‘One Drink’ below:

‘Nevada’ lyrically speaks about a long-distance relationship and the heartache involved in such a relationship, the feeling of just wanting to be with that particular person, regardless of different time-zones or where they are in the world.

Each track written by Picture This is fantastic, however there is something incredibly special about the lyrics in ‘Dance Away With You’ and for this reason, captivating ballad ‘Someone To Hold’ (featuring Australian singer CXLOE) is the perfect follow-up track. Both tracks are filled with raw emotion and the lyrics in both tracks are beautiful. ‘Someone To Hold’ is the only duet on the album and CXLOE’s vocals fit perfectly on the track, a perfect compliment alongside Ryan’s vocals.

‘Magnet’ emphasises the strong feelings in a relationship and the similes used throughout this track are one of a kind. With lyrics such as ‘You’re a magnet to me, a lighthouse from the sea, and I don’t know if I can resist the pull and the electricity.’

‘Hurt Nobody’ is quite possibly one of the most pop-sounding tracks on the album and in one track, conveys the feelings of both love and heartbreak, in comparison to each other. ‘Life of the Party’ follows on from ‘Hurt Nobody’ and represents a continuation of Picture This’ maturity in their music sound.

‘Broken’ has a heartbreakingly beautiful nature to it. One of the most poignant lyrics from ‘Broken’ is ‘I think I’m broken, plug me out and plug me back in, then I’ll start working.’ Furthermore, this track lyrically speaks about staying with someone, despite being ‘broken,’ rather than being ‘fixed by someone else.’ The ‘MDRN LV’ album is very relatable and the album depicts various situations, which listeners can relate to, in one way or another.

‘More Than Just Tonight’ speaks about the desire of being with someone for more than just one night. Once again, the emotion in this track is strong and the strong beat throughout this track is excellent and correlates well with the lyrics and nature of the track.

‘Everything or Nothing’ is the final track on the album and what a way to wrap up the second album! This track captures the band’s new music sound conveyed throughout the album and there is no better track to finish the album on! You can watch the official music video for ‘Everything or Nothing’ below:

From the tracklisting to the artwork, lyrics, vocals, the meaning behind the tracks and much more, the ‘MDRN LV’ album is absolutely fantastic and represents potentially their best body of work to date.

At the time of publishing this review, it was just announced that the ‘MDRN LV’ album had reached the Number One position in their home country of Ireland. From everyone here at CelebMix, we want to say a huge congratulations to the band for this achievement!
