After the success of the Know-It-All album and tour, Alessia Cara is transforming her story with the recent release of “Growing Pains” and soon enough, “Trust My Lonely.”
The 22-year-old Canadian has used her music to speak out about topics such as body positivity (“Scars to Your Beautiful”), being an outsider (“Here”) and suicide (Logic’s “1-800-273-8255”). Now Cara’s long-anticipated sophomore album The Pains Of Growing will center around reaching the age where you’re not a teenager anymore.
“Growing Pains” is a snippet of the album’s full potential. The maturity and confidence in her voice through this song goes unnoticed. In this song, Cara uses music to explain what she’s been dealing with while growing up and balancing fame, relationships, and her happiness. It came from a place of pain and feeling lost with where life was headed. Listen to the track below:
“For the first time I’m opening up about something that I’ve never really talked about before,” Alessia Cara tells Billboard in a recent interview. “What I was trying to accomplish is getting more insight into what I’m going through and being a bit more honest about myself, but also hopefully, in turn, helping someone else through maybe what they’re going through.”
The upcoming album will feature songs depicting Cara’s past three years of maturing while in the spotlight. You will listen to the musical influences who impacted the album’s sound and the changes in her life, perfectly ensuing from “the pains of growing.”
“I thought calling it The Pains of Growing sounds like you’re about to read a book about someone or about something” Cara continues. “It would just be more impactful and sound more like a story, honestly.”
The second single off the album “Trust My Lonely” will be released next Friday.
