Antonia Releases A Romanian Ballad Titled “In Oglinda” On Her 30th Birthday

What a beautiful song! Antonia strips it back in honour of her 30th birthday by dropping the gorgeous Romanian ballad “In Oglinda”. Accompanying the single release is a lyric video which stars a young girl in front of the camera. This single release follows up her hit Romanian track “Matame” which features Erik Frank.

Antonia, full name Antonia Iacobescu, is a Romanian singer who hit internationally on Tom Boxer’s single “Morena”, she later followed that up with a number one single in her home country, titled “Marabou”. She’s been building up her career in her country by releasing amazing singles and collaborating with the likes of INNA, Alexandra Stan, Pitbull, Connect-R, and Achi. She also collaborated with Alex Velea, her partner, on her own single – where he was an uncredited vocalist – “Iubirea mea” and on his single “Sahara“. She was also a judge on the Romanian version of The Four and was a contestant on Uite cine danseaza (the Romanian version of Dancing With The Stars / Strictly Come Dancing – in English, the show’s title translates to “Look Who’s Dancing”) shown on Pro TV. Her partner was Paolo Campigotto, and they came sixth overall. She later incorporated what she had learned into her music video for “Tango“. She later re-released her loving duet with Jay Sean, originally titled “Wild Horses”, last year in collaboration with Lotus, re-titling it to “Wild Wild Horses” with a featured vocal from Pitbull. She’s continuing to release new singles, with “Matame” becoming a massive hit for her in Romania, and appearing on the country’s charts.

On 12 April 2019, Antonia turned 30 years old, and so dropped this single to mark her birthday. It is her first official single of 2019 if you discount her remix releases of “Matame“. The song’s title “In Oglinda” means “In The Mirror” in English, and the lyrics paint a story about of being far away from someone you love. In Antonia’s case, that is her daughter Maya, who she had with her husband-at-the-time Vincenzo Castellano. They separated in 2011, and Antonia has been trying to file for divorce for five years and it seems that her and Alex Velea plan to get married in the future. Before the divorce is finalised, the custody of Maya needs to be decided.

The song has been written by Antonia, Denis Roabes (from The Motans), Marcel Botezan, and Sebastian Barac. It has been produced by Marco & Seba who were originally in the group Play & Win before they split. The concept of the track came from Antonia herself. As for the lyric video, Urs took control of the direction, graphics, and assembly, whilst Cercel Lazar was the director of photography, and Loops Production produced the video.

It’s clear that this song means a lot to Antonia as every single word strikes at our heart. Her connection with the track certainly runs deep and she is literally singing this track to Maya, we can’t imagine what Antonia has been going through these past years, but we can hear it in her voice. Proving her emotional vocal ability, Antonia really drives home her message in the track, we may not understand Romanian but we can feel her emotion, and thanks to Lyrics Translate we now understand what the lyrics mean in English and why Antonia sings from the heart. As for the lyric video, it has a cool concept of handwritten lyrics whilst a visual of a young girl can be seen in the background, just being herself in front of the camera.

“In Oglinda” is available to download and stream right now, through Global Records. We would also like to wish Antonia a happy birthday and hope that her wishes come true.
