We totally missed this single release by Antonia, and what a song we have been missing out on. Her amazing vocals certainly suit this Latin-flavoured track that is reminiscent of Camila Cabello’s “Havana” the features Young Thug, so much so that it could be a sample. Antonia’s track is titled “Matame” and features Erik Frank. It follows up her re-release of “Wild Horses”, titled “Wild Wild Horses“, as well as her feature on Alex Velea’s track “Sahara” which also featured Lino Golden, as well as her own official single “Hotel Lounge“.
Antonia, full name Antonia Iacobescu, is a Romanian singer who hit internationally on Tom Boxer’s single “Morena”, she later followed that up with a number one single in her home country, titled “Marabou”. She’s been building up her career in her country by releasing amazing singles and collaborating with the likes of INNA, Alexandra Stan, Pitbull, Connect-R, and Achi. She also collaborated with Alex Velea, her partner, on her own single where he was an uncredited vocalist “Iubirea mea” and on his single “Sahara“. She was also a judge on the Romanian version of The Four and was a contestant on Uite cine danseaza (the Romanian version of Dancing With The Stars / Strictly Come Dancing – in English, the show’s title translates to “Look Who’s Dancing”) shown on Pro TV. Her partner was Paolo Campigotto, and they came sixth overall. She later incorporated what she had learned into her music video for “Tango“. She later re-released her loving duet with Jay Sean, originally titled “Wild Horses”, this year in collaboration with Lotus, re-titling it to “Wild Wild Horses” with a featured vocal from Pitbull.
As for Erik Frank, whose real name is Frank-Erik Tchatchoua, is best known for being the featured artist on INNA’s single “Ruleta” which has gone on to have great success, hitting over 100 million YouTube views and becoming one of INNA’s most-watched music videos. He’s certainly a rising artist and it’ll be interesting to watch where his career takes him.
According to the lyric video’s YouTube description, the song has been written by Marius Dia, Alex Parker, Olivia Addams, and Erik Frank, whilst production was handled by Marius Dia and Alex Parker. The lyric video, which was released to accompany the song on Antonia’s YouTube Channel, was created by NGM Creative.

This song is certainly getting a lot of comparisons to Camila Cabello’s single “Havana” featuring Young Thug, and we’re really not surprised as this was our thought from the first few seconds, they must’ve sampled the track for this song. The song is in Spanglish with the chorus dominantly in Spanish; this is a great move for Antonia as she has been dipping in Latin dance music ever since she featured on Micke Moreno’s track “El Amor“, her voice just suits this perfectly and we can imagine her gaining success from a Latin-inspired track. Erik Frank adds a similar spin to what he did with INNA’s “Ruleta” and it adds a bit more Spanish flavour to the track.
The lyric video takes us into some dark block-coloured imagery, showing some relatable items that connect with the lyrics to an extent. It’s nothing engaging, but we sure hope to see Antonia dancing a salsa or a tango, or even a flamenco, in a music video for this track – if one ever gets dropped.
“Matame” is available to download and stream right now, through Global Records. We can’t help but hope that Antonia is leading up to an album release, as we do need one since it’s been three years since her debut LP This Is Antonia.
