What else should I know about Laura Põldvere?
Laura is an Estonian singer who began her career in 2005, after participating in Eurolaul 2005 (Estonia’s national selection to find a representative for Eurovision). She performed the song ‘Moonwalk’ and placed second. However, Laura was a member of the girl group Suntribe who went on to represent Estonia at Eurovision that year. Therefore, she performed at the 50th Eurovision Song Contest with the song ‘Let’s Get Loud’. Unfortunately, the band failed to qualify for the final. In 2007, Laura once again took part in Eurolaul, placing third with her song ‘Sunflowers’.
She released her debut album Muusa in September 2007, before taking a break from music to study at Berklee College in Boston. In 2009 however, Laura was back, and she entered the new format of Estonia’s national selection for Eurovision – Eesti Laul. She placed third with the song ‘Destiny’. As well as this, she released her second studio album Ultra in December of the same year.
After this, she released a compilation album Sädemeid taevast, which consisted of all her previous singles. She also entered Eesti Laul last year with the song ‘Supersonic’ which placed second in the competition.
Not one to give up, Laura once again entered the competition this year, alongside Koit Toome. They performed the song ‘Verona’ and went on to win the competition. They will, therefore, be off to Kyiv in May to represent Estonia at the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest.
