What else should I know about Laura?
Laura was born in Rio de Janiero, Brazil in 1994 to her father who is a dual citizen of Brazil and Latvia, and her mother who is of Portuguese descent. In 2005, Laura and her family moved to Minnesota, the United States of America and the singer grew up, splitting her time between the two countries. She attended Berkley College of Music after finishing high school and went on to graduate with a degree in musical arts from the California Institute of the Arts. Laura then moved to New York to attend Columbia University, where she last year graduated with a master’s degree in music.
Whilst studying, Laura was still extremely busy with her music career. She signed with Universal Music Brazil in 2010 before releasing her debut album Made In Rio the following year. This led to Laura opening for Demi Lovato on her performances of A Special Night With Demi Lovato in Brazil.
Laura’s second album Reason to Stay was released independently in 2014, and just last year her first EP RUBY of a series titled Precious Stones was also released. The next instalment titled AMBER is set to be released this year.
Last December, Laura was announced as one of the participants of Supernova 2018 (Latvia’s national selection show to select a representative for the Eurovision Song Contest). She won the competition with her classy and elegant performance of “Funny Girl” and won the honour of representing Latvia at the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon this May.
