Valentina Monetta is a singer from San Marino. She began her music career in 1995 as part of the band Tiberio, working alongside several artists. In 2008 she entered San Marino’s national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest with the song ‘Se Non Ci Sei Tu’ but was not selected. As well as this, Valentina’s debut album Il mio gioco preferito was released in 2011.
In 2012 Valentina was chosen by the broadcaster San Marino RTV to represent her country at that year’s Eurovision Song Contest in Azerbaijan. She performed ‘The Social Network Song (OH OH – Uh – OH – OH)’ but failed to qualify for the final.
In 2013, Valentina was once again selected to represent San Marino at the Eurovision Song Contest. This time she performed the song ‘Crisalide (Vola)’, finishing top of all entries which did not qualify for the final. Valentina’s second album La storia di Valentina Monetta was also released this year. Valentina was chosen to represent San Marino again in 2014, and for the first time qualified for the final, with her song “Maybe (Forse)”. She finished in 24th place in the final, making it San Marino’s best result to date.
After taking a short break from the contest, Valentina will again be representing San Marino in 2017. She is singing ‘Spirit of the Night’ as a duet with singer Jimmie Wilson and will be performing the song in Kyiv next week.
As this will be Valentina’s fourth entry to Eurovision, she will tie for the record as the woman with the most participations in the Eurovision Song Contest. She shares this record with Elisabeth Andreassen and Sue Schell.
