The line up for Strictly Come Dancing 2017 just got even hotter, and we’re super excited about the latest announcement.
Former JLS star Aston Merrygold is the eighth celebrity to be confirmed for this year’s series. The announcement was made during Scott Mills’ show on BBC Radio 1. Speaking about taking part in the show, Aston said: “I’m so happy to be joining Strictly. It is such a brilliant show and I’ve followed it for years. I’m both nervous and excited to learn from the professionals about a whole new way of dancing!”

Aston is best known for being one fourth of boyband JLS, who went on to sell over 10 million records worldwide. Since then, he has judged on Sky1’s Got to Dance and has gone on to carve out a solo career. His last release was his debut EP, Precious.
We already know that Aston is pretty nimble on his feet, but how will he fare on Strictly? He’ll no doubt be aiming high after former bandmate JB Gill won the Strictly Christmas Special in 2012. It’s certain that Aston will be one to watch, and his backflip skills will definitely come in handy for the fun Charleston!
Aston joins Mollie King, Davood Ghadami, Ruth Langsford, Gemma Atkinson, Reverend Richard Coles, Joe McFadden and Simon Rimmer on this year’s line up. More announcements are expected over the coming days. After four days in a row of confirmed male celebrities, we’ve got our fingers crossed for a new female contestant next!
