BTS release the video for “Euphoria: Theme of Love Yourself Wonder”

Just when fans were still trying to overcome the effect created by “Face Yourself”, BTS stunned the world with yet another video.

Today, the group has dropped the astounding video for “Euphoria: Theme of Love Yourself Wonder”.

This 8 minutes video helps viewers connect past narratives showcased by the group in their previously released albums. It gives an explanation of the events showcased in the earlier works but at the same time, it also offers another dimension for interpretation.

The release of the video is not much of a surprise but the content definitely is. While performing at 2017 Melon Music Awards, BTS used certain words during the live stage with “Euphoria” being one of them. Fans anticipated the words to be the title of group’s future tracks. Now with the release of “Euphoria”, their guess seem to materialize into reality.

The video begins with the destruction and harm caused by the members to each other. This theme of violence and death was prevalent in BTS’ earlier albums but with the release of Wings, an attempt of evasion became quite evident. “Euphoria” too highlights the transition as the boys shift their roles from being the agents of harm to the reasons for each other’s happiness. But at the same time, Jimin’s state holds the video in cliffhanger. If he is the same person from “Serendipity”, then, the whole video can be an “illusion” of happiness, he and others dreamt of. Or, does the video showcase the successful attempt of the boys in “living” their lives?

It is interesting how BTS and Big Hit Entertainment deals with the themes of bonding and friendship.

Jungkook’s voice brilliantly holds the narrative together and helps us transition smoothly through the phases depicted in the video. Directed by YongSeok Choi and produced by Emma Sung Eun Kim, the video showcases the careful selection of frames and beautiful depiction of expressions that resonate well with the story.

We have come up with our possible interpretation of the video but we would love to listen to yours. Share your thoughts on the video via tweet @CelebMix.
