BTS has kicked off the first of many teasers in the lead up to their highly anticipated album ‘Map of the Soul: 7’, with the comeback trailer and track ‘Interlude: Shadow.’
‘Interlude: Shadow’ is the perfect way to kick off the new era for the seven-piece as it is raw, hard-hitting and powerful; all the things that attract BTS listeners. Sampling elements of their 2013 track ‘Intro: O!RUL8,2?’, The interlude by Suga (Min Yoongi) is a true hip-hop track that discusses the highs and lows of fame. Lead by a heavy beat, Suga glides across the track with many references to wanting all of what fame has to offer him but fearing to reach such heights in his career and being afraid of falling from the top.
The gorgeous accompanying music video is a visual feast featuring many subliminal messages related to the track. Notable scenes including Suga performing to a sea of fans who all have their phones directed at him watching his every move and being followed by a swarm of people, hinting to the overwhelming amount of eyes on BTS at all times.
While the overall theme of Map of the Soul: 7 is unknown at the moment, if this track is anything to go by the album may discuss the topics of their feelings being global stars with the weight of the world on their shoulders.
‘Interlude: Shadow’ is taken from the 4th full-length album by BTS ‘Map of the Soul: 7’ which is due for release on February 21st with the first official single out on January 17th. You can preorder the album at HMV for the UK, Amazon for the US and from Weply for all other countries.
