Yesterday we started the brand new year, 2018; and, in the spirit of the celebration, we’ve decided to take a look back at the memories that made up 2017. There have been so many things that have happened and been released, some of which didn’t fit in a previous category whilst still deserving a mention.
From books to web series, from Instagram photos and profiles to performances. We’ve chosen some defining 2017 things that we’ll never forget. So, check out what we loved about 2017 below.
Imagine Dragons & Khalid Performing At The American Music Awards – Chosen by Jess (CelebMix Writer)
“Whoever thought of putting together ‘Young Dumb & Broke’ with ‘Thunder’ is a GENIUS. The two completely opposite tracks sound heavenly together, not to mention the performers’ smiles and happiness on stage were infectious to everyone watching. It was definitely amazing.”

BTS’ Performance On The American Music Awards – Chosen by Michele Mendez (CelebMix Writer)
“BTS’ performance on the American Music Awards made history as they became the first K-Pop group to perform on the show. Everyone in the audience went crazy for them! Watching the performance live on television felt surreal. Being a fan, I was proud to see them reach their longtime goal of performing on an American award show.”

Rak-Su’s Performance Of “Dimelo” On The X Factor – Chosen by Rachel Dempster (CelebMix Writer)
“Personally, from this year’s series of ‘The X Factor’, Rak-Su’s performance of ‘Dimelo’ was definitely a stand-out moment and has had me singing along ever since!”
Actor: Zac Efron – Chosen by Zoe Adams (CelebMix Writer)
“Unsurprisingly to anyone who knows me even slightly, my favourite actor of 2017 is Zac Efron. He really established himself as an actor to pay attention to this year and I truly believe that if he carries on the way that he has done over the last twelve months then he is going to go down in history as one of the greats. He started 2017 in hilarious comedies then he ended the year by starring as an all-singing, all-dancing, trapeze-flying heartthrob in, ‘The Greatest Showman’, alongside Hugh Jackman; but, while these roles are all well and good, my favourite thing about Zac Efron as an actor is the pure heart he puts into everything he does… Now, who would’ve thought that over ten years on, I’d still be swooning over that nerdy basketball player from the ‘High School Musical’ movies?!”
The Girls Musical In London’s West End – Chosen by Katrina Rees (CelebMix Editor)
“Back in January, Gary Barlow and Tim Firth’s musical, The Girls, made its way to London’s West End. Based on the true story which inspired the Calendar Girls film, the musical was truly heartwarming – I don’t think I’ve ever laughed and cried so much during one show. Sadly the show’s run in the West End has come to an end, but I highly recommend you catch the show when it tours the UK later in 2018.”
New Instagram: @NowAndGen – Chosen by J Lauren (CelebMix Writer)
“Back in March, Genevieve Padalecki decided to start up her own Instagram (@nowandgen). She is beautifully honest, with many of her captions talking about her struggles and strengths of being a woman, a mom, and a wife. Not one photo feels out of place, as all of them come together in a way that is aesthetically perfect.”
Web Series: The Horizon (Season 8) – Chosen by Jonathan Currinn (CelebMix Editor)
“This is my favourite web series in the entire world; it has an addicting storyline and the cast are not only stunning but easily portray the characters effectively. The script is superb, with the drag queen, Wilma Bumhurt, shining all the way through with quirky comebacks and laugh-out-loud moments, but it’s not just the drag queen that makes The Horizon a must-watch show; it’s the characters and the stories they tell both comedically and seriously. It’s the most watched gay web series in the world; and, tackles big storylines from HIV to unsafe sex, from drugs to cheating, from PrEP to coming out to family, this series has it all; but it’s Season 8 where things get intense and gripping, with one of the sweetest endings ever. I can’t wait to watch Season 9!”

Jonny Labey & Chrissy Brooke Win Dance Dance Dance – Chosen by Kelly McFarland (CelebMix Editor)
“Jonny Labey and Chrissy Brooke were deserving winners of ITV’s Dance Dance Dance. Both as a duet and as soloists they did some jaw-dropping performances. My personal favourite was Chrissy dancing to Sia’s ‘Chandelier ‘ in the semifinals.”
YouTube Channel: Heath Hussar – Chosen by Amber Nordberg (CelebMix Editor)
“Heath Hussar starting his channel in January of 2017, and I have watched every video he has put out and have loved every one of them. Now that both Zane and Heath have their own channel, I feel like my life is now complete.”

Actor: Sebastian Stan – Chosen by Ashley Dye (CelebMix Editor)
“I’m gonna go with actor and say, Sebastian Stan. Quite simply, Sebastian Stan has been overlooked for some time, and this year, his role as Jeff Gillooly [in ‘I, Tonya’] put him in front of new audiences. He became his role, which he tries to do with each character he takes on, and with a schedule as busy as his 2017, the fact that he was so dedicated to not only his work but charity organizations and reaching out to fans proves that he’s a force in the industry.”
#MeToo Movement – Chosen by Ayushi (CelebMix Writer)
“It’s funny that sexual assault within and out of Industry is something we all are aware of but still the experiences shared during this movement surprised “some people”. The movement was the highlight for me because it just re-emphasised the poor state of our society that tends to promote its facade of development.”

Harry Styles’ Performance On The Graham Norton Show – Chosen by Nicola Craig (CelebMix Writer)
“Yes, I’m mentioning Harry again but being able to witness his first UK TV performance in person meant it couldn’t skip being on my favourites of the year list. The openness of his interview and how well he performed as a soloist like he’d done it for years showed that it was just the start of a very successful year for Harry Styles.”
Grease The Musical in Toronto – Chosen by Annemarie Cutruzzola (CelebMix Writer)
“A few weeks ago I saw Grease The Musical in Toronto and I had an absolute blast! It was my first musical ever, and now I may be slightly obsessed (I’ve been listening to the soundtrack non-stop). Seeing Janel Parrish from Pretty Little Liars onstage playing Sandy was amazing. The story flowed really well and the entire cast was so talented – I just had a great experience overall!”
Psych: The Movie Christmas Special – Chosen by Azra (CelebMix Writer)
“Psych is my all-time favourite show, without a doubt. I’ve watched it as a kid and then I rewatched it again a few years back from pilot to the very last episode. So I pretty much cried when I found out that the epic Shawn and Gus (& co.) were gonna come back, even if it’s only for two hours. The advertisement for the movie left me in stitches, and when it finally came out I couldn’t be happier. It was the perfect Christmas gift.”
Dreamgirls The Musical – Chosen by Byaregal (CelebMix Writer)
“I saw it three times and Amber Riley absolutely nailed it as ‘Effie White’. The whole cast were superb and I would recommend the show to anybody.”
Lindsay Arnold x Jordan Fisher x Corbin Bleu’s Trio On Season 25 Of Dancing With The Stars – Chosen by Cayla Masters (CelebMix Writer)
“Simply iconic and well, Jordan Fisher is the best celebrity dancer the show has ever had.”

The Dolan Twins – Chosen by Niki Smith (CelebMix Writer)
“This year their followers have doubled, they’ve started hosting for MTV and have been gracious as always. They also were the first people to hack the iPhone X proving that the facial recognition isn’t twin proof.”
Rip It Up Tour – Chosen by Lynn Macgillivray (CelebMix Writer)
“This show was that good, that even after being lucky enough to see it twice when it came up to Scotland, I still went and spontaneously booked a trip down to Carlisle to see it for a third time. I got to meet Natalie Lowe, Jay McGuiness and Louis Smith on two occasions and all three were so lovely and down to earth – it just made the experience. Also, the entire cast (dancers, singers, band) were fantastic, and really took us on a trip back to the fifties, with so many classics such as Elvis and Little Richard.”
