The brand new year, 2019, is here; and, in the spirit of the celebration, we’ve decided to take a look back at the memories that made up 2018. There have been so many things that have happened and been released, some of which didn’t fit in a previous category whilst still deserving a mention.
From books to web series, from Instagram photos and profiles to performances. We’ve chosen some defining 2018 things that we’ll never forget. So, check out what we loved about 2018 below.
Camila Cabello Performing “Havana” On The Ellen Show / Chosen by Katrina Rees (CelebMix Editor)
“Camila Cabello has been on fire in the last year, especially with her live performances. She is forever delivering something new production wise whenever she performs and her stint on The Ellen Show was no different. Her 50’s cabaret club style performance of ‘Havana’ oozed glamour and sass, bringing a new edge to the world famous track.”
RuPaul’s Drag Race Holi-slay Spectacular / Chosen by Jonathan Currinn (CelebMix Editor)
“As a fan of both Christmas and RuPaul’s Drag Race, the thought of them being infused together and the potential crowning of a Christmas Queen sure got me excited; especially with the return of brilliant queens Shangela, Trixie Mattel, Eureka O’Hara, Kim Chi, and Latrice Royale. I thought Shangela was robbed on All Stars 3, so she deserved to win a crown at least, although that didn’t strictly happen even though she totally werqed it out and slayed the competition – that snowman look was unforgettable! We also saw RuPaul and Michelle Visage lip-sync which was hilarious! This special was full of Christmas charm and in promotion of RuPaul’s recent Christmas album Christmas Party.”
The CW’s Arrowverse ‘Elseworlds’ Crossover / Chosen by Michele Mendez (CelebMix Editor)
“The CW’s Arrowverse ‘Elseworlds’ crossover was one of the best television events of 2018 because it gathered some of DC Universe’s favorite superheroes, including Supergirl, the Flash, Green Arrow, Superman, and Batwoman. While the shows within the Arrowverse have a crossover every year, 2018’s was extra special because it showed characters switching roles. For a short while, fans saw Oliver Queen as the Flash and Barry Allen as the Green Arrow. ‘Elseworlds’ also set the scene for the next crossover, titled ‘Crisis on Infinite Earths’. We can’t wait to see what happens next!”
Panic! At The Disco Headlining Reading Festival / Chosen by Ellie Nicholas (CelebMix Writer)
“I have been a huge fan of Panic! At the Disco for years and seeing them headline the main stage at Reading Festival to a crowd that spanned the whole grounds, who were all singing along to every single song was incredible. Panic have been on the rise for the last few years, going from strength to strength and this was by far one of the best memories of 2018, witnessing a band who are constantly experimenting and pushing themselves achieving incredible things.”
5 Seconds Of Summer Performing ‘The Only Reason’ Live On Their Meet You There Tour / Chosen by Georgia Brown (CelebMix Writer)
“My favourite memory of 2018 has to be seeing 5SOS perform ‘The Only Reason’ live. The song was a part of their 2014 EP She Looks So Perfect. They’d never performed it live before the Meet You There tour so it’s safe to say 15-year-old me never thought 19-year-old me would hear it live in a 5000 capacity venue! I loved that Michael started the song solo, and the transition from the solo to the full band was absolutely beautiful. They modernised the song in a way that kept it authentic but felt new.”
Shawn Mendes On James Corden For A Week / Chosen by Sofia Esposito (CelebMix Writer)
“Being a huge fan of Shawn Mendes, I was able to stream and watch my favourite artist on one of my favourite American shows! There were so many funny moments and my favourite was his performance!”
SKAM Austin / Chosen by Annemarie Cutruzzola (CelebMix Writer)
“While SKAM was my pick for my favourite TV show of 2017, the spinoff show SKAM Austin, an American version of the Norwegian original that premiered on Facebook Watch during 2018, was a standout web series in 2018. It followed the same format as the original SKAM, releasing clips and teasers on the characters’ social media accounts throughout the week before a full episode dropped at the end. I looked forward to getting a little piece of the story every day! It was interesting to see the little changes that were made from the original and the American twists that were put on the story. Like the original SKAM, it addresses a wide range of issues that face young people which makes it relatable while its unique format keeps the show engaging.”
Meeting Jay McGuinness At Linda McCartney’s Veggie Table / Chosen by Lynn Macgillivray (CelebMix Writer)
“Anyone who knows me knows Jay McGuinness is my favourite human on the planet. Back in May, I travelled down to London (I live in the north of Scotland) for Linda’s Veggie Table 2018 (a cooking event) as Jay was one of the hosts. The event was amazing, we were treated to so much amazing Vegetarian food and mocktails, given recipes, shown how to make all the food and got to speak to Jay throughout the show – all for a tenner! And then the icing on the cake, after the event Jay came around and spoke to everyone and took photos – he was so generous with his time, as usual, and I went away that evening on cloud 9.”
Prince Harry & Meghan Markle’s Royal Baby Announcement / Chosen by Brittany Sims (CelebMix Writer)
“I am just so obsessed with the royal family. They are going to have the cutest children. His hair and his skin color – those kids are going to be gorgeous.”
The Sister Squads Rise / Chosen by Niki Smith (CelebMix Writer)
“James Charles, Emma Chamberlain, and the Dolan Twins, formed the Sister Squad in 2018, and it’s made the greatest content ever! From James being open with his love for Grayson to Emma and Ethans hilarious jokes. It’s hard to pin point my favourite exact SS moment but I’ve spent 2018 wishing I could get in that friendship group.”
Cardi B Carpool Karaoke On The Late Late Show With James Corden / Chosen by Evelin Mercedes (CelebMix Writer)
“Cardi B on The Late Late Show With James Corden. It was really funny watching her try to learn how to drive and watching them perform her songs.”
The Mind Of Jake Paul The Shane Dawson Series / Chosen By Ashley Gale (CelebMix Writer)
“I really liked the Shane Dawson series about Jake Paul because every episode left me wanting more, and I’m a big fan of both Shane and Jake.”
Colleen Hoover’s Book Titled “All Your Perfects” / Chosen by Azra (CelebMix Writer)
“News flash- Colleen made me emotional again… She has a habit of doing that. Mrs Hoover is my all-time favourite person and author, and when she announced a new book in 2018 I couldn’t have been more thrilled. I was gifted the book by a random woman I’ve met online after I’ve gushed about how much I love Colleen Hoover and her books, and to this day it’s the best gift I’ve ever gotten. The story itself is a heartbreaking tale of Quinn and Graham who are facing one of life’s most troubling problems a married couple can have. It’ll make you laugh out loud one page and weep in despair the next one.”
Halsey’s “Without Me” Live Lounge / Chosen by Toby Bryant (CelebMix Writer)
“Halsey rounded off her year by releasing hit single ‘Without Me’. Whilst visiting the BBC Radio 1 studio she treated listeners to a stripped back version of the track. The pop star has worked her acoustic magic with the likes of ‘Eyes Closed’ and ‘Colors’ in the past and delivers a knockout performance once again.”
Carrie Hope Fletcher’s Book Titled “When The Curtain Falls” / Chosen by Charlotte Freeman-Coates (CelebMix Writer)
“‘When The Curtain Falls’ is Carrie’s third novel and easily my favourite. Set in the theatre world it’s a magical read that captured your imagination from the first to the last page.”
The Vamps Teaming Up With Sofar Sounds / Chosen by Nicola Craig (CelebMix Writer)
“Back in July, The Vamps teamed up with Sofar Sounds who put on stripped back sets in quirky locations; in this case Shoreditch Treehouse. This intimate show was special for many reasons, most of all that fans were even treated to then unheard track ‘What Your Father Says’ along with some classic Vamps tracks. Sitting in a room of The Vamps fans singing along and sharing this special moment is something I’ll never forget about 2018 and I don’t think the other lucky fans ther will either!”
Meeting Nolan North And Troy Baker At MCM Comic Con Glasgow / Chosen by Kay Simpson (CelebMix Writer)
“Gaming was always a part of my life, from playing Pokemon on my Game Boy, to kicking butt as Lara Croft throughout the Tomb Raider series. After having surgery on my ear earlier in 2018, I got back into gaming but just playing telltale games on my phone. I discovered Troy Baker through batman the telltale series, and with Troy there is Nolan! These are 2 of the biggest voice actors and motion capture actors ever. I had the honour of meeting them at MCM Glasgow. Nolan (who plays Nathan Drake in the uncharted series) was the loveliest and most humble man. Troy was also lovely, taking the time to read an article I wrote about them, on our sister site Fuzzable.”
The MMVAs / Chosen by Katherine Jiang (CelebMix Writer)
“This was my second time covering the MMVAs, but my first time covering the show from the red carpet. It was such an eyeopening learning experience like none other, and I’m so happy I got to experience it with a fellow CelebMix writer, Ellie Doe-Demosse. You really see how much work goes into events behind the scenes and it feels almost surreal to even be there.”
The Yodel Kid Singing In Walmart / Chosen by Ashley Bulayo (CelebMix Writer)
“Let’s not forget the yodel kid, you guys. He made it to Coachella. He even made it to my list of top singles. He doesn’t JUST yodel, guys. Please tune into “Famous”. It’s weird because he’s still a kid but it’s such a cute song. Also, he has a name. It’s not Yodel Kid anymore! Call him Mason Ramsey.”
