Last year, Portuguese singer Salvador Sobral won Eurovision Song Contest 2017 with his single “Amar pelos dois”. Following his win, the anticipation for Portugal’s representative for 2018 increased manifold.
Continuing with its usual selection method, the broadcaster RTP in Festival da Canção, invited 22 composers to produce an original song. Upon winning, Isaura chose Claudia Pascoal to perform her winning composition “O Jardim”.
Claudia Pascoal, who has been selected to represent Portugal in her home ground, won the selection competition by the public votes. Catarina Miranda, the other finalist with whom Pascoal was competing against, got maximum votes from the Jury but the decision of the public votes turned out to be the deciding factor in the competition.
Pascoal’s performance is definitely worth checking out. Both Isaura and Pascoal did amazingly during their live performance.
“O Jardim” is a beautiful single which Isaura wrote as a tribute to her late grandmother. Pascoal’s raspy vocals complement the music as well as the lyrics quite well. Through her performance, the artist was able to convey the feelings that Isaura intended to showcase through the song.
We will now be watching Claudia Pascoal compete with the finalists of Eurovision Song Contest in the Grand Final. Being the host country for 2018, Portugal has directly qualified for the finals.
