“How to Get Away With Murder” Promotes Conrad Ricamora to Series Regular

Conrad Ricamora has been promoted to a series regular for season three of How to Get Away With Murder!

Ricamora plays Oliver Hampton, Connor Walsh’s boyfriend. Originally, he was only meant to appear in the pilot episode but he made quite an impression and got to stay longer. The decision has proved to be smart as he has become the fan favourite on the show.

Season two, which just ended in the US, has been an eventful one for Ricamora’s character. Oliver had to deal with his HIV-diagnosis, and the hacking he does for the Keating Five has become more dangerous. Last fall, it seemed as if Oliver’s life was in danger, which upset the fans of the show. Back then, Ricamora told TVLine, “There was a real outpouring of love and concern for Oliver, and a fear that he might get killed off — but a lot of it was done in a very over-the-top way. One person threatened to fight [showrunner] Pete [Nowalk]. Someone else said they were going to throw their TV out the window if my character died. There were a lot of memes, too — even ones with Beyoncé.”

Now that he has been promoted to a series regular, we can expect to see more of Oliver in season three. The character has expressed interest in working for Connor’s professor, Annalise Keating, after quitting his job. Showrunner, Pete Nowalk, has said, “[Oliver] has a new lease on life… not only meeting Connor, but also his [HIV-positive] diagnosis. All of it has made him look at his life and say, ‘What do I really want?’ He wants a little bit more excitement. He wants to feel passionate about his job. He doesn’t want to be bored.”

One thing’s for sure; we’re excited to see more of Oliver, and we’re definitely interested in seeing where his relationship with Connor is headed (hopefully in a good place!).
