This is not a test.
This is your emergency broadcast system. Announcing the commencement of the annual purge sanctioned by the UK government.
For the first time since its inception, no one has been granted special immunity from the Purge.
May god be with you all.
This was the warning we received on Twitter before David Mark Bulley released the music video for his latest self-penned track, ‘Where Do We Go From Here’.
Inspired by The Purge films, the five and a half minute visual begins in the woods, which sets an eerie vibe for the rest of the video. With the purge announcement echoing in the background, we see several people creeping through the woods, evidently on a chilling mission. From the off, we can tell that we’re going to be treated to a mini-movie, rather than any old music video.
As the opening bars of ‘Where Do We Go From Here’ kick in, we see David’s body lifeless among the leaves, crossed with shots of a young man being chased by people ready to purge. The music is interrupted by the purge alarm, with shots of David’s friends Rob, Connie and Johnny looking on in terror.
Run towards your fear
Scream loud so you can hear
You’ll be seeing stars tonight
Where do we go from here
David and his friends are then seen running from a big group of people on the purge, and as they slow down, it’s clear that Johnny is unable to continue. This leaves David, Connie and Rob to run to safety without him. However, as they make their way, Johnny is seen running in the opposite direction.
Among shots of David singing and some of the purgers creeping, the camera pans back to David, Connie and Rob catching their breath. As David urges them to continue running, he is suddenly captured by a masked man. The next shot shows David on the floor, with the masked man approaching him. David and the masked man begin fighting, the latter being cheered on by an army of purgers. As the music comes to a stop, it is later revealed that the masked purger is Johnny. As David turns to run away, he is faced with Connie and Rob who have also joined the dark side.
Looking into the distance, David spots a lone ranger urging him to break free and run to safety. With the net closing in on the pair, will they manage to escape the purge? You’ll have to watch and find out for yourself!

The quality of the video is so impressive, especially coming from an unsigned artist. David has gone above and beyond what is expected from a music video, and tells a dramatic story through this action-packed mini movie. The anthemic song has been brought to life by the strong visual, which emphasises that you can’t always trust those closest to you. We love how David has cleverly used The Purge as inspiration for portraying this situation – it’s hard to know who will be there for you in your time of need.
Having impressed with his previous video for ‘Wonderful Life’, it’s clear to see that David has both beautiful musicality and an incredible eye for creative and emotive visuals. It’s refreshing to see an artist who is truly passionate about their craft and determined to push their creative boundaries, delivering meaningful songs and eye catching visuals in the process.
David is an unsigned artist who has been sat on for far too long, however, ‘Where Do We Go From Here’ is powerful enough to catapult him to great heights. We’ve got a feeling that 2017 is going to be a special year for David Mark Bulley. Where do we go from here? To the top, we hope.
