Here at CelebMix, we love sharing incredible talent with you. If you’ve yet to hear of Drax Project then we suggest that you take note right away.
Made up of Shaan Singh, Matt Beachen, Sam Thomson, and Ben O’Leary, the New Zealand four-piece band have been busy stealing the hearts of music lovers with their unique blend of pop, jazz and RnB.
Drax Project began in 2013 with Shaan on saxophone and Matt on drums, with their band name being a mash up of their beloved instruments. During this time, the pair performed pop covers at local bars whilst also busking in Wellington. Later on, Sam (double bass) and Ben (guitar) joined the band and they began to create original material.
In terms of music, Drax Project’s biggest hit to date is ‘Woke Up Late’, which has garnered over 8.3 million streams on Spotify. The track has also been certified Platinum by the RIANZ.
Over the past few years, Drax Project have also gained popularity by supporting the likes of Ed Sheeran, Lorde and Six60 on tour. They are currently the special guests on the European leg of Camila Cabello’s Never Be The Same tour. The band have also performed their very own headline shows and recently broke Lorde’s record for the fastest selling club show in Auckland history, selling out in three minutes.
On Friday, the band released their new EP NOON, which is made up of five incredible tracks including ‘Woke Up Late’. The EP is a perfect combination of tracks which truly showcase Drax Project’s sensational talent. From the chilled vibes of ‘Prefer’ to the smooth, funk-RnB tones of ‘Toto’, there is something for everyone on NOON.
