Ed Sheeran is reportedly being sued over allegations that his hit single “Thinking Out Loud” has elements similar to the Marvin Gaye classic “Let’s Get It On”.
The lawsuit was lodged by the family of Ed Townsend, one of the co-writers of “Let’s Get It On”. They claim that Sheeran “copied harmonic progressions, melodic and rhythmic elements,” stating that they are “substantially and/or strikingly similar” to “Let’s Get It On”.

This is not the first time in recent months Sheeran or Gaye has been involved in a similar lawsuit. Just a short while ago, Ed was sued by two songwriters due to his widely popular song “Photograph” reportedly having ‘note-to-note similarities’ to their song “Amazing”.
Last year, Gaye’s lawyer was successful in a lawsuit claiming breached copyright against Pharrell Williams and Robin Thicke due to their smash hit “Blurred Lines” being similar to “Got To Give It Up” from Gaye.
