Ed Sheeran already has multiple Brits, BBC Music Awards, and MTV Video Music Awards to his name, but as if that weren’t impressive enough, he’s got another accolade to add to the ever growing list.
University Campus Suffolk has announced it will be honoring our favorite ginger with an honorary degree, thanks to his smooth vocals and heartbreaking lyrics. What do you mean that wasn’t the official reasoning? Okay, so the actual terminology used was that the honorary degree is for Ed’s “outstanding contribution to music,” which we wholeheartedly agree with too.
“I’ve had an amazing year with my world tour and this makes it even better,” Ed shares his thoughts on the news. (And an amazing year it’s been. Ed recently played three nights at Wembley Stadium and another two at Ireland’s Croke Park.)
The Photograph singer adds, “Suffolk is very much where I call home and I’m always welcomed back and get so much support. Receiving this recognition is a real privilege.” Ed dropped out of his A-levels to pursue music as a full-time career, and for him, it has clearly paid off. Ed will officially receive the degree at a formal graduation ceremony in the near future.
He may not be able to return home often because of his jam-packed tour schedule, but it’s clear the Grammy-nominated singer is always welcome.
