The second season of Degrassi: Next Class, premiers tonight in Canada, on F2N at 9.45pm et/pt. Don’t worry if you don’t live in Canada and can’t watch it tonight, the show will also premier worldwide on Netflix on the 22nd of July.

But before the show premiers, we want to fill you in on everything you need to know to prepare yourself for the second season of Degrassi: Next Class.

Who is returning this season?

The original series regulars from season one will be returning for this season, such as Lola, Zig, Zoe, Tristan, Frankie, Maya etc. In total there are nineteen characters returning from the previous season, meaning everyone is returning. Not to mention the return of fan favourite Archie ‘Snake’ Simpson, who has been in the show since Degrassi Junior High.

Which characters from TNG are returning for the reunion?

To celebrate the 500th episode of Degrassi, they are having a reunion episode and are bringing back past characters from past seasons. The reunion episode will see the return of Paige Michalchuk, Emma Nelson-Mason, Craig Manning, Marco Del Rossi, Spinner Mason, Holly J. Sinclair, Liberty Van Zandt, Sav Bhandari, Peter Stone and Mo Mashkour. Unfortunately fan favourite, Jimmy Brooks, played by Drake, will not be returning for the reunion. Check out the reunion video below.

What happened last season?

It can sometimes be hard to remember what happened in the last season of a show when it hasn’t been on your screen for so long. But don’t worry we are here to help you catch up with all the drama that happened last season. Check out the recap song, narrated by Stefan Brogren, which contains all the key things you need to know about last season, is covered.

What serious storylines will Degrassi be dealing with this season?

”Once again, Degrassi is going there.” Degrassi will be dealing with issue of racism in the upcoming 500th episode. In an E! exclusive sneak peak we see the start of a #BlackLivesMatter protest, which all starts with a game of volleyball. The fact that Degrassi are covering this, is really important because racism is a terrible thing but sadly it is still happening in the world. It’s great to see a show that is acknowledging the fact that racism exists and are creating a storyline to help show that all lives matter. ”Degrassi goes there!”

There’s a protest happening outside of the school and true to her … nature, Emma wants to join in on that protest. – Miriam McDonald ( Emma Nelson).

Sara Waisglass who plays Frankie Hollingsworth on the show, also said in an interview with E!, “I don’t think we’ve ever really covered racism in this way, especially because it’s not someone blatantly being racist because they know they’re being racist,”

“My character just doesn’t understand that her act is racist and that’s, I think, a really cool way to tell a story — a villain who doesn’t know she’s a villain. She learns through her best friend, which is also so important, because it shows that whole putting-yourself-in-other-people’s-shoes (idea), which is also a main theme,” she added.

Basically that is everything you need to know before the season 2 premiers.  But before you go, we want to ask some questions.

Which characters that aren’t returning, would you like to return for the reunion episode?

Personally we would like everyone to return but especially Manny, Jimmy Ellie, Fiona, Eli and Imogen. We would love for JT to return but sadly he can’t, we miss him so much.

Which TNG characters are you most excited to see?

We are most excited to see Paige bring her sassiness back even if it’s only for an episode. We think we can all agree that Paige rules the school. We also can’t wait to see how Spinner and Emma got on with their married life. We are most excited to see how their lives post Degrassi, has been.

Tweet us @CelebMix and tell us who you are most excited to see and who you wish was returning.
