Magical lions, tigers, and bears, oh my!
A new edition of J.K. Rowling’s Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is set to be published on March 14, 2017 – four months after the film of the same name will be released in theaters.
Fantastic Beasts is a fictional textbook, written by wizard Newt Scamander, that is used throughout J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series. A paperback version of the textbook was published in 2001.
According to Scholastic, the book is “an approved textbook at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry [that] has entertained wizarding families through the generations. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is an indispensable introduction to the magical beasts of the wizarding world.”
The new 2017 edition of Fantastic Beasts will feature a new cover design, as well as a foreword from author J.K. Rowling and several of her own illustrations and doodles. The publication of the book will benefit Comic Relief, a major U.K.-based charity.
The Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them textbook is the inspiration for the newest Warner Bros. film that is bringing us back to the wizarding world of J.K. Rowling. The movie follows Newt Scamander, a magical zoologist played by Academy Award-winning actor Eddie Redmayne.
According to ComicBook.com, Newt, having “just completed a global excursion to find and document an extraordinary array of magical creatures,” arrives in New York in 1926, only to run into trouble with “a No-Maj (American for Muggle) named Jacob, a misplaced magical case, and the escape of some of Newt’s fantastic beasts.”
The screenplay for the film was written by J.K. Rowling herself, and will be published on November 19, 2016, one day after the film itself will be released.
We can’t wait for all the new magical adventures that surely await us!
