Marvel know how to get their fans excited for their upcoming projects and they have, once again, teased fans with new concept art, this time of baby Groot for the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

Fans of the 2014 hit movie fell in love with the gang of misfits and the funky soundtrack. But, most of all, they fell in love with Groot, voiced by Vin Diesel, who is a humanoid plant who speaks very little other than his key phrase “I am Groot.”

Unbelievably, this unusual character was able to pull on the heartstrings of the audience when he sacrificed himself for his friends by building a nest with his abilities around his new friends.

We’re not crying, there’s just something in our eye..

Thankfully, Groot’s best pal Rocket, played by Bradley Cooper, salvages a sprig from Groot’s body after the battle ends and plants it in a pot.

At the end of the film, we see a baby-sized version of Groot has sprouted and cheekily dances to The Jackson 5 hit “I Want You Back” behind Drax the Destroyer’s back which was hilarious to watch.

We should see Baby Groot again in Vol. 2 and surely by this time, he will have outgrown his pot, but he won’t have grown much judging by the picture Marvel has released.

However, some fans are worried that he may not be the same Groot that we have come to know and love in the first Guardians of the Galaxy.

Executive producer Jonathan Schwartz was interviewed about the upcoming film and spoke honestly about the adorable character.

“He doesn’t have the wisdom and experience of that Groot. He’s a younger Groot and a more rambunctious Groot.

“The question is, is he the same Groot, just smaller? Or is he a different Groot that’s sprung up from the seed of the first Groot?”

Either way, we are just excited to see him coming back for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2!
