The first teaser trailer for Mary Poppins Returns has been released and we couldn’t be more excited.
Debuting during last night’s Oscars ceremony, the teaser doesn’t give too much away however, it’s enough to whet our appetite for what promises to be a supercalifragilisticexpialidocious sequel.
The trailer is set in a dismal looking London and focuses on a kite which has blown away with the wind. We are introduced to Jack (Lin-Manuel Miranda) who helps a child rein in the kite. To their surprise, they also manage to rein in the infamous Mary Poppins.
The new film takes place 25 years after the original film and sees Mary (Emily Blunt) return to 1930’s London to visit Jane and Michael Banks (Emily Mortimer and Ben Whishaw) who are now grown ups.
During the trailer’s final scene, Jane and Michael are surprised yet delighted to see Mary, with the latter stating “Mary Poppins, it is wonderful to see you”. Mary’s response? “Yes it is, isn’t it?” before giving herself a knowing look in the mirror.
