The latest series of Great British Bake Off came to an emotional end last night, with Nadiya Hussain being crowned as queen of the Bake Off tent!
Nadiya beat off stiff competition from fellow finalists Tamal Ray and Ian Cummings to clinch the title. She pulled out all the stops for her final Showstopper challenge, creating a ‘big fat British wedding cake’, adorned with jewels from her own wedding.
Once announced as the winner, Nadiya struggled to contain her emotions and moved a lot of the viewers, and Mary Berry herself, to tears with a beautiful speech. Talking about winning, Nadiya said “I’m never going to put boundaries on myself ever again. I’m never going to say I can’t do it. I’m never going to say maybe. I’m never going to say I don’t think I can. I can and I will.’

Nadiya became a firm fan favourite with her creative bakes, unique flavours and extraordinary facial expressions. She also won Star Baker three times, including during the semi-final.
13.4 million viewers tuned in to watch Nadiya win the title last night, becoming the most watched TV show of the year. At its peak, it was watched by 14.5 million, smashing last year’s final which was watched by 12.3 million people.
