German R&B singer-songwriter Wellingta unveils the music video for “Be True,” an appetizer for her forthcoming debut EP, slated to drop later this year.
Now London-based, Wellingta was born in Berlin from Angolan and Brazilian heritage. Her name – Wellingta – translates to “from the rich man’s farm.” Growing up surrounded by music, Wellingta’s unique sound blends elements of R&B, dancehall, pop, Samba, Afrobeats, and world music into deliciously infectious sonic concoctions.
CelebMix spoke with Wellingta to find out more about the person behind the music, how she got started in music, her influences, and which artists she’s listening to right now.

What inspired your new single/music video, “Be True?”
‘Be True’ was inspired by the concept of being true to oneself. We should strive to be our true selves especially in these hard times. Some things about you will be similar to others and some will be different. It’s the combination of everything that makes you unique. Be You for You.
What’s your songwriting process? Melody first, or lyrics?
Melody first.
What do you hope your fans/listeners take away with them when they listen to your music?
Music is the language of emotions so I hope that people feel something, every time they listen to my songs.
How did you get started in music? What’s the backstory there?
I grew up in a musical family and started singing and dancing at an early age. When I was 6 years old I participated in a show called „The Mini Playback Show“ and have been singing ever since.

Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Beyoncé, Aaliyah, TLC, Drake.
Which artists are you listening to right now?
Drake, Pop Smoke, Doja Cat, Ariana Grande, 6lack, WSTRN, The Weeknd.
Do you have a guilty music and/or entertainment pleasure?
Yes many: Hip Hop Trap, UK Drill, Pagode, Funk, Salsa, Kuduro, Semba & Zouk Music.
Any advice for young artists just getting started?
Believe in yourself! Keep pushing and pursue your goals.
Why do you make music?
It gives me that ‘this is what I’m meant to do’ feeling! It’s my calling.
