James Bay and Julia Michaels have teamed up to release new single Peer Pressure. Is 2019 set to be the year of incredible duets? We hope so!

Peer Pressure was produced by Joel Little (Lorde & Khalid) and when speaking of the track James explained “I think it can be easy to stay very guarded in life, and not let anybody in, past your personal armour. These guards we all put up every day for different reasons. In writing Peer Pressure Julia and I wanted to talk about how, when the ‘right’ person comes along, they can break through any armour and with love, get straight to you. It’s about that person who, no matter how much of a guard you hold up, finds their way through to you. ” We absolutely love the story this track is telling as it’s a feeling many experience during their lives. The duo are known for creating tracks which involve the listener emotionally and Peer Pressure is another great example of this.

James and Julia’s vocals work beautifully alongside each other, like a true match made in musical heaven. When speaking of the collaboration, James said “Working with Julia was one of those magical moments when the writing felt so special and the subject felt like a unique take on a topic which is most commonly discussed negatively. It’s like sometimes your peers are the ones who bring you out of yourself.”. With Julia echoing these feelings “James is an incredible songwriter and amazing talent. Writing Peer Pressure was a great collaborative experience because we had so much fun in the studio and the song came from a place we could both relate to.  I love the song so much and I hope fans connect to it as much as we do.”. Known for her incredible duets with the likes of 5 Seconds Of Summer and Clean Bandit, Julia Michaels has brought something truly incredible to this track.

Peer Pressure is the first new music James Bay has released since 2018 album Electric Light. With a North American tour just around the corner and a support slot on Ed Sheeran’s Summer European tour, we’d definitely get learning these lyrics if you’re heading to any of these shows.
