Jessie J has announced that she will be releasing a new four-track EP called R.O.S.E, marking her first album since 2014’s Sweet Talker.

The songstress took to Twitter to reveal the name. R.O.S.E is named after her mother, but is also an acronym for Realisations, Obsessions, Sex and Empowerment. Jessie also shared a link to her website, where fans could watch an in-depth video where she spoke about the inspiration behind the EP.

The video begins with Jessie baring her soul about her struggles within the music industry. “I didn’t want to make music anymore. I said that out loud. Wow. Then I tried to stop and I didn’t know how to because it’s impossible to walk away from true love. Art, emotion, lyrics, music… is what I need to survive,” she said.

“I don’t do this because I want to do it, I do it because I have to. I feel everything so deeply. It’s a blessing and a curse and I lost my passion to create,” Jessie continued. “To draw a line between business and art. I’d fallen into darkness and allowed myself to be led by fear. The fear was keeping other people happy who didn’t ever care about me.”

After finding her way and her love for music again, Jessie revealed that she is strong enough to share her new, honest music with the world. “My mother is called Rose, she gave me the gift of life. A rose is at its most beautiful when budding. I rose above the pain. We give roses or a single rose as a gift with so many different feelings. This is my gift to you.”

Whilst we don’t know when R.O.S.E will be released, we do know that Jessie has worked with producer DJ Camper (John Legend) on the EP.

The EP announcement follows on from ‘Real Deal’, which Jessie released as a promotional track with M&Ms.
