It’s been almost two years since John Newman last released any music, but we’re delighted to say that our favourite Yorkshire man is finally back with a bang.
The singer released ‘Fire In Me’ earlier today and we’ve already got it playing on repeat. Co-produced by John himself along with Mark Ralph (Clean Bandit, Jax Jones, Alma), ‘Fire In Me’ is an energetic anthem which showcases everything we love about the singer.

Armed with an infectious chorus, a brassy sound, an almost gospel production and of course his iconic powerhouse vocals, John has delivered a classic and uplifting track which truly defines him as an artist.
Having taken some time away due to ill health, ‘Fire In Me’ proves that John is stronger than ever, with the song highlighting his fighting spirit both lyrically and melodically.
I was a spark in the night but you drown me out
So I’ll take the walls I’m inside and I’ll burn them down
Cause I still got a fire in me
In addition to releasing ‘Fire In Me’, John has also dropped the accompanying music video. Directed by Ozzie Pullin, the visual was shot in Hull and takes place in a boxing ring and a working men’s club simultaneously. The video fully reiterates that despite having been knocked down in recent years, John has come back fighting and is here to stay. We also love that the video is a family affair, with John’s brother James (who co-wrote the song) and their mum making an appearance.

‘Fire In Me’ follows on from John’s previous single ‘Olé’ and his Sigala and Nile Rodgers collaboration, ‘Give Me Your Love’. Since then, John has been incredibly busy in the studio, writing and recording new music.
If ‘Fire In Me’ is anything to go by, then we’re more than excited for what else John has in store for us musically. Welcome back John, we’ve missed you.
