Kesha’s Claims Against Dr. Luke Dismissed By Judge

A New York City Justice, Shirley Kornreich, dismissed almost every counterclaim Kesha has made against Dr. Luke, following his claims against her of defamation.

Kesha’s lawsuit with Dr. Luke has been ongoing for almost two years, stemming from her allegations that he drugged, raped, and abused her throughout her career. She worked closely with Sony and Dr. Luke for over ten years to create music, but she’s now trying to break her contract with the company. She still has a number of albums that she’s required to make until she can legally do so.

In February, Kesha was denied the ability to leave her contract with Sony. Today, A New York City Justice threw out her claims against Dr. Luke, citing a lack of jurisdiction. The claims occurred outside of the state of New York, so they aren’t valid.

This news comes days after Kesha made a statement saying that Sony agreed to break their contract with her if she came forward and told the media that she was lying about her allegations.

The Justice also refused that what Dr. Luke is accused of could be referred to as a hate crime, claiming that “every rape is not a gender motivated hate crime”. Kornreich states that although Dr. Luke, a male, may have committed these crimes against Kesha, a female, her claims do not support her statement that he acted against her based on her gender. The only claim of Kesha’s that was not thrown out was a situation in which Kesha says that Dr. Luke physically assaulted her on an airplane, and then raped her in his hotel room. But the Justice says that these allegations may have been made too late.

Following this news, fans have brought back the #FreeKesha hashtag on twitter and are tweeting it, along with supportive messages for the singer.

We’re thinking about Kesha here at CelebMix and are hoping for a positive outcome to this ongoing situation.
