Netflix’s animated phenomenon “KPop Demon Hunters” is breaking records on more than just the screen. “Golden,” the glittering, high-energy single from the film’s fictional K-pop group HUNTR/X, has soared to the top of the Billboard Hot 100, marking a historic first for a female-led K-pop act.
The chart triumph comes on the back of 31.7 million U.S. streams, a 71% surge in radio airplay, and 7,000 units sold between Aug. 1–7, according to Billboard. It also extends the track’s reign on the Streaming Songs chart to a third consecutive week while setting a new record as the Hot 100’s greatest gainer in streaming for six straight weeks — a feat unmatched since Migos’ “Bad and Boujee” in 2017.
“Golden,” voiced by EJAE, Audrey Nuna, and REI AMI, isn’t just another movie soundtrack cut — it’s a fully-fledged K-pop powerhouse crafted with the precision, hooks and polish to stand alongside the genre’s real-world heavyweights. Co-director Maggie Kang has described the team’s mission as creating music that “legitimately fit into the K-pop space,” and the results speak for themselves: this is not a novelty song riding on a film’s coattails, but a legitimate pop contender dominating on its own merits.
Its success also places HUNTR/X in rare company. The last fictional ensemble to claim the Hot 100’s top spot was Encanto’s “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” in 2022, while the last all-female collective of three or more members to do so was Destiny’s Child with “Bootylicious” in 2001. In the world of K-pop, “Golden” becomes only the ninth track tied to the genre to top the chart, joining BTS, Jung Kook, Jimin, and Psy in the elite club.
The song’s climb has been steady and dramatic: debuting at No. 81 on July 5, it cracked the Top 10 within weeks, driven by fan enthusiasm, social media buzz, and viral choreography challenges. UK fans have embraced it just as fiercely, pushing it to No. 1 on the Official Singles Chart — making it only the second K-pop single to achieve that feat after Psy’s “Gangnam Style” in 2012.
“Golden” is not the only soundtrack cut to find chart success. “Your Idol,” performed by the film’s in-universe rival boy group Saja Boys, landed at No. 8 on the Hot 100 and also topped U.S. Spotify charts in July, briefly dethroning global juggernauts BTS and BLACKPINK.
“KPop Demon Hunters” itself has been a runaway hit for Netflix since its June 2025 release. The fantasy-action musical, following a K-pop girl group moonlighting as demon slayers, is now the platform’s most-watched animated original and second most-watched English-language film of all time. Critics have praised its dazzling animation, infectious soundtrack, and genre-bending premise, earning it a 97% “Certified Fresh” score on Rotten Tomatoes.
With its dual success in streaming and music, industry insiders speculate Netflix may expand “KPop Demon Hunters” into a multi-film franchise, echoing the trajectory of Disney’s “Frozen”. For now, though, “Golden” is enjoying its moment in the sun, and rewriting the rules of what a movie soundtrack song can achieve in the K-pop era.
