Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande have debuted at at number one on the UK Singles Chart with their sensational collaboration ‘Rain On Me’.

During its first week, the track garnered an impressive 70,000 chart sales. With 8.1 million streams, the track claims the biggest ever opening week streaming numbers by an all-female collaboration in the UK. It’s also the first all-female collaboration to hit number one in six years, with the last track to achieve this feat being ‘Bang Bang’ by Jessie J, Nicki Minaj, and Ariana herself.

‘Rain On Me’ marks Lady Gaga’s sixth UK chart topper, following on from ‘Just Dance’, ‘Poker Face’, ‘Bad Romance’, ‘Telephone’ featuring Beyonce, and ‘Shallow’ with Bradley Cooper. It’s also Ariana’s sixth UK number one, having previously topped the charts with ‘Problem’ featuring Iggy Azalea, ‘Bang Bang’, ‘thank u, next’, ‘7 Rings’, ‘Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I’m Bored’

Speaking about the news, Lady Gaga told OfficialCharts.com: “If someone told me the day I wrote ‘Rain on Me’, a day I was crying water like misery, that this song would someday be Number 1, I never would have believed them.

“Thank you for celebrating this song. It’s my gift to you, to celebrate yourself. I hope the whole world is dancing. To all my UK monsters, I love you so much from the bottom of my heart. Thank you for making me Number 1, and I hope you feel Number 1 every time you listen to this song.”

‘Rain On Me’ is taken from Lady Gaga’s highly anticipated sixth studio album Chromatica, which was released today. You can read our review of the album right here.
