UK singer/songwriter Lauren Ray is an exciting rising talent who is ready to take over the world with her sublime vocals and easy charm. She burst onto the scene back in 2016 with the release of her debut album ‘We Will Need Courage‘ and since then she has been touring the world with the likes of Anastacia, Lucy Spraggan and Rebecca Ferguson.
And now, Ray is back with a brand new single; ‘Be A Man’ taken from her upcoming EP ‘Inside This Silence’ which will be released on August 3rd. The new single showcases her gorgeous vocals with intricate melodies and the kind of honest, accessible lyrics that have already won her an army of loyal fans.
The new EP was recorded in Germany with multi-platinum producer Mark Smith and promises to be one of the most exciting releases of 2018. Each of the four tracks on the record deal with the ‘unspoken’ or the underlying feelings that we have but might be hard to voice.
The upbeat lead single, ‘Be A Man,’ is Lauren’s tongue in cheek take on the phrase ‘Be A Man’. “It’s often used to mean Be Strong, Powerful, Macho, particularly when it comes to relationships” Lauren states, “but in this instance I’m using it to say Be vulnerable and say what you’re feeling – something both men and women find hard to do when it comes to taking a risk in lust and love”.
Next up is the sublime ‘Dull Ache’, which was inspired by hearing grief described as a dull ache that never goes away. “I’d never heard someone describe grief in this way before and it was really moving”.
‘Upstream’ is about choosing to be strong and dealing with life’s difficulties head on, and the EP comes to a close with the sultry, ‘Black Wings’ which is a frank look at how the music industry can sometimes feel to new and independent artists like Lauren. “This industry is tough; all artists will experience rejection, financial struggles and uncertainty but a passion for what we do and the allure of the industry keeps us going and keeps us trying, despite how insane this seems to others…hence the opening line in the song “Like a moth gone insane, I will keep chasing the flame.”
