Last night (July 20th) 2009 X Factor winner Joe McElderry brought his Saturday Night at the Movies tour to Cardiff. His stellar performance took place at the grand New Theatre.
The evening started with Joe belting out a number of old hits including his winners single ‘The Climb’, and the beautiful ‘Time to Say Goodbye’. He was joined on stage by fellow singers Ben James-Ellis, and Keith Jack who like McElderry have both played Joseph on stage. X Factor star Sam Callahan was also a special guest filling in for the ill Lloyd Daniels.
During the first half of the show Ben, Sam, and Keith showcased their vocal talents with a number of songs including ‘Walking in Memphis’. While the trio put on a great show it was Joe McElderry who shone brightest.
This is his tour and he is without doubt the star of the show. As the second half began Joe whipped through the tracklist of his new album ‘Saturday Night at the Movies‘ which includes covers of hits such as ‘Daydream Believer’, Love Is All Around’, and I’m Into Something Good’.
The audience were on their feet more than once giving the singer several standing ovations throughout the evening. One of the most fun parts of the show came as the Cardiff crowd sang and danced along to ‘Any Dream Will Do’. It was a real highlight of the night.
The evening ended with a second rendition of ‘Daydream Believer’ which saw the audience rise to their feet one last time. The whole show was spectacular with Joe McElderry’s stage presence and banter making for great fun with lots of laughs. The crowd even sang Happy Birthday to the tour manager Gareth.
Joe McElderry’s vocal’s were insane with his vibrato and falsetto range being on another level. His voice is outstanding and he can sing in any style with perfection while putting on a great show and entertaining the crowd with ease.
RATING: 5/5.
