On January 29, it was announced that PÆNDA will be representing Austria in Tel Aviv at the Eurovision Song Contest 2019. The announcement was made on Ö3-Wecker radio show. The electro pop artist was internally selected by ORF during the Ö3 alarm clock show, presented by Eberhard Forcher.
The Vienna based artist will be performing “Limits” at the contest. As shared by WIWIBloggs, “ORF says the song will be released ‘in the next few weeks’, and describes it as sounding ‘very electronic, very reduced’ and feeling ‘extremely modern and fresh.'”
This year, Austria will be participating for the 52nd time at the Eurovision. During these 5 decades, the country has won the title twice. Last year, Cesar Sampson helped Austria secure third place with his song “Nobody But You”.
As compared to past participants from different countries, PÆNDA is still an emerging artist in her country. Last year, she released her debut album and is now working to release her second album in April. All the same, being new will allow her to establish her position in the contest as an artist, without any past assumptions and expectations.
To win the show, PÆNDA will have to gain more points than the other 41 countries that are competing. Announced acts so far are Srbuk for Armenia, Tamta for Cyprus, Jonida Maliqi for Albania, Eliot for Belgium, Miki for Spain, Serhat for San Marino, Duncan Laurence for The Netherlands, Tamara Todevska for FYR Macedonia, Michela Pace for Malta, Bilal Hassani for France, and Lake Malawi for Czech Republic. The other countries are expected to reveal their acts in the forthcoming months.
The 2019 Eurovision Song Contest will be hosted at the Expo Tel Aviv in Israel after Netta won last year with the song “Toy”. The two Semi-Finals will take place on 14 May and 16 May with the Grand Final taking place on 18 May. A total of 42 countries will compete in the contest.
