Pentatonix Drops Rihanna Medley Featuring Singer’s Biggest Hits

A Capella sensation Pentatonix surprised their adoring fans with their brand new medley, titled the “Evolution of Rihanna,” featuring 38 of the singer’s biggest hits.

With their usual set up, Pentatonix had its vocal trio – Mitch Grassi, Scott Hoying and Kirstin Maldonado – sitting at a level above its beatboxer and bass – Kevin Olusola and Matt Sallee. They start with RiRi’s debut single, “Umbrella,” with the group’s vocal trio singing in perfect harmony. As the video progresses, all three singers get their moment in the spotlight. Maldonado showed off her mid-range vocal during “SOS” and “Stay,” while Grassi showed off his high tone and range in songs such as “Pon De Replay,” “Unfaithful” and “Diamonds.” The group’s baritone vocalist, Scott Hoying, gave his lower-range vocals to “Love The Way You Lie” and “California King Bed.” New member Matt Sallee also lent his smooth bass range to songs such as “Only Girl in the World” and “This is What You Came For.”

Over the years Pentatonix has given us wonderful covers and medleys such as “The Michael Jackson Medley”, “The Beyoncé Medley” and “The Perfume Medley.” Their unique blending of their different vocal ranges really makes this group special, in fact their voices have earned them three Grammy awards in the past three years, with their most recent being for their cover of “Jolene” with the stupendous Dolly Parton.

While fans have loved the group’s previous medleys, their reactions to the “Evolution of Rihanna” have been overwhelming, some even saying it’s one of Pentatonix’s best mashups, and here at CelebMix, we must agree.

Now, fans are waiting to see Rihanna’s reaction to the medley, but we aren’t worried. We know that she’ll love it almost as much as we do!
