Preacher Renewed For Second Season At AMC

AMC’s comic book adaptation Preacher is only halfway through its freshman season but executives at the cable network have just announced a renewal. As an added bonus for fans of the show, season 2 will expand from 10 episodes to 13.

Executive produced by Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and showrunner-slash-writer Sam Catlin, the series is already making waves as 2016’s second biggest new cable series among adults 18-49, averaging 3.3 million viewers weekly.

A twisted dramedy, Preacher centres around Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper), a Texan preacher who is inhabited by a mysterious entity that grants him the power to make people do as he says. Aided by his ex-girlfriend Tulip (Ruth Negga) and an Irish vampire named Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun), Jesse is forced to deal with two angels on his back.

Preacher is a special television program and we’re eager to share with fans the rest of this wild first season and, now, an expanded second season,” said President of AMC, Charlie Collier, Variety reports. “What Sam, Seth, Evan and the entire creative team have achieved in bringing Garth Ennis’ graphic novel to the screen is extraordinary. We look forward to more time with these unforgettable characters be it in Heaven, Hell, Texas or beyond.”

It’s been quite the journey to get Preacher to screens. Starting out life as a feature film in 2008, AMC picked up the concept in 2014 and later that year began the two year process to get it on TV. It’s paying off in a big way for the network and with this season of Game of Thrones about to end, Preacher is in prime position to take the number one spot in its time slot.
