“Crave” is the title of the new music video from Danii Roundtree, premiering on CelebMix. The song is from her 10-track album Memoirs, a tasty blend of cool jazz, pop, R&B, and soul.
While growing up in Miami Danii fell in love with music. From that point on, everything revolved around singing and performing. In high school, she attended the Dillard Center for the Performing Arts, followed by the Berklee College of Music in Boston. As soon as she finished at Berklee, Danii studied musical theater at The American Musical and Dramatic Academy.
Once she moved to Atlanta, the slope of her career elevated, when she starred in Broadway’s Rising Stars. She became Miss New York USA in 2008, followed by competing on American Idol.
“Crave” opens with a retro-flavored tinkling piano seguing into a cool, sensuous R&B melody with a tantalizing Motown dynamic. Rippling jazz and pop flavors roll through the harmonics infusing the tune with a creamy buoyant texture. A popping bass line buffs the rhythm to a high polish, as flowing strings and buttery big-band-style horns add vibrant hues.
Danii’s gorgeous voice, burnished by coruscating timbres, conjures up memories of Diana Ross. It’s cool, clean tones carry palpable sultry savors, as well as beau coup smoldering embers of soul.
With her ‘50s pin-up girl hairdo and blue dress with white polka dots, Danii graces the video with charisma, as the classic girl-meets-boy tale plays out. Completely smitten by her Prince Charming, Danii resides in a magical make-believe world, where happy ever after is more than a watchword. When she awakens from her fantasy, she’s a singer about to go on stage with her back-up singers The Coco Puffs, à la Diana Ross and The Supremes.
The cashmere surfaces and infectious colors of “Crave,” along with Danii’s singularly yummy tones and the polished gloss of the melody make this song irresistibly alluring.
