Rising star Lloren releases the visual to sun-kissed hit ‘Like This’ with an apocalypse-inspired roadtrip through Los Angeles in a cinematic new video.
The single, which was dropped early in 2023, is an 80s-influenced and summer-ready pop flick that lands somewhere between the worlds of Rita Ora and Phoebe Bridgers.
“The song came about naturally,” Lloren tells CelebMix. “I’d previously written lots of darker, cinematic, sad songs. This was one of the more happy songs I wrote that came organically from me.
“I’d been on a 22-hour flight with layovers and had a studio session booked without time to rest. I was so tired but I met with the producer and just matched energies.”
The music video for ‘Like This’ is aptly set in the United States as Lloren finds the perfect love with a mannequin and enjoys a fling in abandoned stores and diners, as well as along the highway.
“The director thought I was absolutely bonkers,” Lloren admits when asked how she sold the kooky idea of falling head over heels for a mannequin. “But his weird matched mine and we decided to do it!
“It ended up happening just through our love of it as we didn’t have a massive budget for it. It’s taken a life of its own and being picked up by some Los Angeles film festivals… it would be a dream for it to pick up an award.”
CelebMix asks the singer what has come of the mannequin, who was aptly named Manny. “He’s had a whole life,” Lloren says. “He was living with Ricardo, the director, and his girlfriend for a while. Through every season they would put different props on him for Christmas and Halloween.
“On my last trip to LA in January I had to break up their throuple and reclaim my boyfriend. He’s back in my house but not on display yet… I don’t want to freak out any guests!”
It’s set to be a big 2024 for Lloren with a debut album on the way and the songwriter admits her next single is her favourite to date. “It’s got two meanings,” Lloren teases.
“On first listen it’s a fun pop song about romantic love and idealism but there’s references to James Dean and silver screens so it’s a little something dressed as something else.”
