Skepta’s fourth studio album Konnichiwa has been certified Gold in the UK.
The album, released in May 2016, has now sold over 100,000 copies.
Konnichiwa, the Tottenham MC’s fourth album after 2011’s Doin’ It Again, went on to win the 2016 Mercury Music Prize in September.
Sales of the album rose by at least 174% after his Mercury win which no doubt contributed to the news that the album has reached Gold status in the UK.
Taking to Instagram to reveal the news Skepta wrote “WE DID IT #KonnichiwaIsGold”.
“Infinite thanks to everybody listening worldwide for real, to all that offered me their help and time along the way.”
“I love you spiritually and this is still just the beginning, beast mode loading.”
“Boy Better Know forever, Greatness only.”
Later that day Skepta posted a video of himself celebrating the achievement by dancing to Spandau Ballet’s hit ‘Gold’.
Konnichiwa features the hit singles That’s Not Me, Shutdown, Ladies Hit Squad and Man.
