Global pop sensation Taylor Swift surprised her fans, aka Swifties, on the 2022 MTV VMAs night as she announced her all-new album, “Midnights,” slated for release on October 21. After keeping her recording efforts completely under wraps until now, she announced the impending release of her record in her climactic VMAs 2022 speech.
Taylor Swift stole the show as she took home the prestigious honour of Video of the Year award for her 10-minute version of “All Too Well (10 Minute Version) (Taylor’s Version).” During her acceptance speech, she announced her forthcoming album and thought that this award acceptance moment was the perfect time to make this big revelation that left everyone astonished. She further added that she has more to tell her fans “at midnight.”
During the acceptance speech, Taylor said, “You guys, I’m just so proud of what we made, and I know that every second of this moment that we wouldn’t have been able to make this short film if it weren’t for you, the fans,” she said, accepting for “All Too Well (10-Minute Version).” “Because I wouldn’t be able to re-record my album [‘Red (Taylor’s Version),’ which included the winning song] if it weren’t for you. You emboldened me to do that. And I had a sort of made up my mind that if you were going to be this generous and give us this, I thought it might be a fun moment to tell you that my brand-new album comes out Oct. 21. And I will tell you more at midnight.”
After that, every Taylor Swift fan waited until midnight and shared their utmost delight and excitement on social media. Exactly at midnight (ET), Taylor Swift unleashed the album title and not-quite-complete cover artwork for her forthcoming record on her Instagram. The 13-track-long “Midnight” will be her first album of freshly written material and follows the success of her last original album, “Evermore,” in 2020. “Midnight” is a collection of all-new music inspired and written at midnight hours by the American singer-songwriter, which spans her life’s 13 sleepless nights, portraying her journey through terrors and sweet dreams.
The announcement post comprised two photos—the first one is the album art for “Midnights,” as presented, looks to emulate old-fashioned LP jackets with songs listed as “Track One” to “Track Thirteen.” Taylor is posing and staring down as she sparks a lighter while wearing her signature red lips and wearing blue sparkly eyeshadow, looking as ravishing and sensational as ever. In the other image, she’s sitting in a dimly lit room holding her head in her hand. This image had a superimposed passage that reads,
“We lie awake in love and in fear, in turmoil and in tears,” she wrote.
“We stare at walls and drink until they speak back. We twist in our self-made cages and pray that we aren’t—right this minute—about to make some fateful, life-altering mistake. This is a collection of music written in the middle of the night, a journey through terrors and sweet dreams. The floors we pace, and the demons we face. For all of us who have tossed and turned and decided to keep the lanterns lit and go searching—hoping that just maybe when the clock strikes twelve, we’ll meet ourselves.” She further added, “Midnights, the stories of 13 sleepless nights scattered throughout my life, will be out on October 21. Meet me at midnight.”
Unlike her other releases, Taylor Swift kept this record completely hidden and away from the spotlight until she announced it herself. Her fans strongly speculated that she will deliver the next edition in her “Taylor’s Version” series of re-recordings with her Reputation album, as she dropped a lot of Easter eggs throughout the VMAs, including her glittery, jewelled attire that strongly resembles the dress she wore in the “Look What You Made Me Do,” music video.
We are all familiar with how our minds work at midnight, progressively descending deeper and more into darker mental realms the quieter the day becomes. Given Taylor’s songwriting prowess as an unparallel songwriter of our generation and her creative burst, it will be interesting to see what this album entails. We are confident that this will be an unbelievably magnificent record and stunning addition to her discography.
