The nominees have been announced for the NYC Web Fest 2019. We’re so excited about this event, we previously announced the official selections for the festival as well as the jury.
A total of 82 digital series and short films from around the world have been selected for this festival and there are 23 awards up for grabs, with the French Canadian series Home turf (La Maison des Folles) leading with six nominations. The sixth annual NYC Web Fest will be hosted at Stonestreet Studios, Manhattan on October 4-6, 2019.
Six nominations for Home turf (La Maison des Folles) makes this web series this year’s most-nominated. It is up for Outstanding Achievement in Cinematography, Best Supporting Actress, Best Actress, Best Foreign Language, Best Director, and Best Web Series. The eight-part series is about an unlikely bond that forms in a beige-toned half basement in a foster home for “problem” teenage girls, in the year 2000. The cast is lead by Sarah Cantin, who plays Sahara, a mixed-race teenage girl who arrives in Quebec from Africa to live in a foster home.
As for other high nominees, they include New York’s Tuesday Nights, a six-episode series that takes place over 24 hours through the eyes of one woman but portrayed by five – Victor Williams from the television show Kings of Queens makes an appearance and is nominated for his guest-starring role; Los Angeles California’s Darcy on House Arrest; Montreal Quebec’s Terreur 404; Durham North Carolina’s Hype; all of which have five nominations.
Highlights for the 2019 NYC Web Fest Include:
- Writing for TV panel featuring Law & Order SVU writer Micharne Cloughley
- Creator Opportunity Panels from Footprint TV & The Founders of the Women’s Weekend Film Challenge
- Appearances by jury members producer/actor Kathleen Simmonds & National Lampoon President Evan Shapiro
- A Presentation from Host & Sponsor Stonestreet Studios
- Several World Premieres including IT Girls and Happily Ever Ally.
“For the first time in our history, three out of the five Best Director finalists are women,” says NYC Web Fest founder Lauren Atkins. “When we finalized the list and I realized this, I cried. I’m so proud of the contributions that this platform and this festival are making.”
