It has been confirmed that Tom Hardy is set to play one of the most famous American gangsters; Al Capone.
Hardy is well known for taking on the roles no-one else dares to do, playing notable characters such as the controversial Charles Bronson, the unpredictable Forrest Bondurant and, most recently, both Kray twins who terrorised London in the 50’s and 60’s.
Earning himself an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor for the Revenant, there is no doubt that Hardy will play Capone with ease.
This new project has been written and will be directed by Josh Trank, with Russell Ackerman, John Schoenfelder and Lawrence Bender producing the film.
The film will centre on Capone and his legacy as the ruthless American gangster he became known as. It will focus on the final days of his life up until he died in 1947, aged 48.
It’ll follow the events of how he was taken down by Eliot Ness and how his mind deteriorated through dementia after a decade of imprisonment.
His past tarnishes his present as memories of his brutality and violence terrorise his every waking moment.
“Fonzo brings together the myth and lore of notorious American gangster Al Capone, with the undeniable talent of Tom Hardy and Josh Trank,” said Alex Walton for Bloom.
Trank directed the recent Fantastic Four and Hardy is currently set to appear in Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk and Taboo, the FX/BBC One eight-part series which we also wrote all about here!
We just can’t wait to see Hardy step into Capone’s shoes!
