‘Dance To This’, the highly anticipated collaboration between Troye Sivan and Ariana Grande, has finally arrived.
The infectious track begins with Troye’s dreamy vocals before Ariana takes over the second verse with her distinct tones. Whilst they sound incredible in their own right, together they take things to another level. ‘Dance To This’ is the bop we’ve been dreaming of, and it’s safe to say that Troye and Ariana did not disappoint.
Speaking about the track, which is today’s Apple World Record, Troye said: “‘Dance To This’ is about that moment when you feel like you’ve been to enough house parties or events, and staying home and like, making out in the kitchen and cooking dinner sounds like a much, much better alternative.”
Troye also spoke to Zane Lowe about how the collaboration came about. He said: “Her and I have known each other for a couple of years, but we had never spoken about anything like that. I’m so in awe of her all the time. I think that she’s just the coolest. I basically just texted her the song.”
“I sat on it for a couple of weeks because I’m nervous to ask people for stuff. I don’t want to ever put anybody in an uncomfortable position where they’re like, this song is terrible and I don’t want to be a part of it. So, I kind of waited and then I was like, you know what, I’m going to regret it if I don’t ask. So, I sent her the song.”
It turns out that Troye didn’t need to worry at all, as it took Ariana “literally a minute” to respond and get on board with the collaboration. He said: “She listened to like, the first half of the song and she was like, ‘THESE MELODIES’ in all caps and doing her Ariana Grande thing. They’re all caps pretty much all the time. A lot of keyboards smashes, a lot of love hearts. It’s super, super sweet.”
“And she was like, ‘When can I do it?’ And I was like, ‘What are you doing today?’ I went back to the studio and she happened to be working at the same studio that day, and we just hung out for a couple of hours, and talked about life and everything, but we also kind of plotted out which parts she was going to sing. Then, literally the next day, she sent me… it was a voice at first, of her vocal on it, and I was so stoked and then I had the demo the next day.”
