Singer-songwriter John Adams is back to melt our hearts once again with a stunning new track called ‘Things That Make You Beautiful’.
Known for his haunting vocals and natural lyricism, John shares his own definition of beauty during the song. Explaining the inspiration behind the track, he said: “When I was writing this song I was planning my wedding, my wife to-be was starting to come to terms with the fact she was 30 this year and was worried that her looks ‘may fade’.
“When I started to think about the ‘Things That Make You Beautiful’ there wasn’t any mention of any visual appearance, and it was all characteristics that were ‘inside’ and ones that wouldn’t change over time. I tried to mirror this concept in the music video and try to question our first impressions that are always based on appearance.”
The track itself is acoustic driven, allowing John’s distinctive vocal to take centre stage. The accompanying visual is suitably powerful, opening with a quote from José Saramago’s Blindness.

The visual features a blind dancer struggling to perfect her movement. During the latter half of the song, it becomes more atmospheric with the inclusion of strings, drums and additional vocals. As the track progresses, the dancer in the visual also finds the strength to show her beauty, as she flows naturally across the room.
The track is stunning and is a perfect representation of the kind of artist John is. There is so much pressure on people these days to be “beautiful” in terms of looks, but to many, it’s what’s on the inside that makes someone beautiful. The lyrics will truly resonate with a number of people. The accompanying visual also reflects the story behind the track beautifully – it certainly moved us to tears.
‘Things That Make You Beautiful’ is one of two new tracks from John. He will also be releasing a track called ‘See You Again’, both of which will be available on March 17.
Both follow on from his last single, ‘Dandelion Wishes’, which we exclusively premiered here at CelebMix. Since its release, the track has garnered over half a million plays on Spotify, and will also appear on John’s forthcoming EP, due out in June/July 2017.
