Years & Years have just released a revamped version of their single ‘Desire’ featuring the incredible Tove Lo. But that’s not what has got people talking.
The music video shows heated scenes featuring the band’s frontman Olly Alexander, who wanted to make a statement with this video.
An open letter was posted on the band’s Facebook and Twitter in celebration of the video’s release. Olly stated that he felt that there should be a light shone on more than one sexuality and identity.
He explained that he wanted to “make videos and songs and art that celebrate all different kinds of sexuality and queer identities.”
The letter continued with Olly saying: ” I choose this because I do not want to hide or limit my sexuality. I want to make videos and songs and art that celebrate all different kinds of sexuality and queer identities.” We salute you Olly!
Years & Years are no strangers to having queer themes in videos. As explain by the band there have always been undertones in their music and visual work.
2016 is setting out to be the year of LGBTQ appreciation in the music industry. Aside from Years & Years, the pop world is blessed with Halsey and Troye Sivan who are no stranger to same-sex relations in music videos, or discussing the topic in interviews.
