In the wake of rock legend Ozzy Osbourne’s passing at the age of 76, interest has surged in “The Osbournes”, the groundbreaking MTV reality series that offered an unfiltered look into the domestic chaos and charm of the heavy metal icon and his family.
Originally airing from 2002 to 2005, the show is now available to stream for free across multiple platforms, including Amazon Prime Video.
“The Osbournes”: A Cultural Milestone
Premiered on March 5, 2002, “The Osbournes” was a cultural phenomenon that broke viewership records and redefined what reality TV could be. The series gave viewers a chaotic, comedic and occasionally heartbreaking window into life with Ozzy Osbourne, wife and manager Sharon Osbourne, and their children Kelly and Jack. At its peak, the show drew more than 6.6 million viewers and remains MTV’s most-watched series to date.
Season two, in particular, is widely regarded as the show’s most impactful. It documents the family’s struggle with Sharon’s cancer diagnosis and their adjustment to an overwhelming wave of fame, with 21 episodes—more than any other season—capturing their highs and lows.
Despite its popularity, Ozzy would later express regret over participating in the series. In a 2013 interview, he admitted he was “stoned during the entire filming” and avoided watching the episodes for that reason. Sharon Osbourne, who ultimately decided to end the show after its fourth season, later reflected that the series had run its course, saying, “It wasn’t the real world, you know?”

A Legacy Beyond the Stage
Known globally as the “Prince of Darkness,” Ozzy Osbourne was not just a heavy metal icon but also a reluctant reality TV star. While his music, both solo and as the frontman of Black Sabbath, drew controversy for its dark themes and on-stage antics, “The Osbournes” revealed a more domestic and humorous side to the rock star.
Despite ongoing health battles, including Parkinson’s disease and emphysema, Osbourne remained a towering figure in pop culture until his death on July 22, 2025. His reality series, initially dismissed by some critics, is now recognized as a pioneer in the genre, paving the way for family-centric celebrity shows like “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” and “The Family Stallone”.
For those who want to honor his memory, “The Osbournes” offers a unique and intimate look into the man behind the music, and the family that stood beside him. Stream it now!
