William The Conqueror are Ruarri Joseph’s new group with Harry Harding (drums) and Naomi Holmes (bass). They have plenty of indie influences so sound somewhere between Wilco & Ryan Adams and classic blues/rock artists The Doors.
And the trio who hail from Cornwall have now confirmed the release their latest single ‘Tend To The Thorns‘. Speaking about the track, William The Conqueror say:“It’s about trust I guess and owning your mistakes. It’s one of the first songs we recorded in my garage still messing around with our sound. We only had three channels but knew we wanted it huge so we did a mix where we had three drum kits all going at once and yeah, it sounded huge, only trouble was you couldn’t hear anything else. Like the song, it was a lesson in going too far and then figuring out the answer once you’ve calmed down!”
Created off the radar with no-one to answer to but themselves the trio ended up recording their upcoming debut album ‘Proud Disturber Of The Peace‘ in Joseph’s garage after plans to record it on the Isle of Lewis were scuppered due to a hurricane killing the power. Undeterred and embracing the ethos of roots based producers such as Ethan Johns and Ryan Hewitt and with input from Slowdive’s Neil Halstead, the group were adamant they wanted to keep the edges loose, opting for single live takes and avoiding excessive overdubs.
Both ‘Tend To The Thorns’ and ‘Proud Disturber Of The Peace’ will be released August 4th!
