Albanian born Los Angeles based electro meets dark pop artist Xhoana X just released her new visuals for “Villian.” The artist, influencer, actress and model has gained widespread recognition for her spellbinding, avant-garde concepts that are richly intertwined into her music and video concepts. Heavily influenced by her Albanian roots and drawing inspiration from pioneering musical acts such as Massive Attack and Portishead, Xhoana X revels in mystique, sensuality, and darker undertones for a completely innovative and captivating musical experience.
In her latest single and video for “Villian,” the artist tells the grim tale of a tumultuous love affair between two women. With haunting lyrics, vocals that feel a bit like a bad girl version of Lana Del Rey, and lush, moody sonics that pull the listener in with its seductiveness, the song is a delicate blend of genres that feels nostalgic as it does unique. The accompanying visuals for “Villian” further accentuate the key attributes of the song, shot in a high contrast 1930’s noir style by acclaimed director TJ Scott.
When speaking to Ladygunn, Xhoana X confides, “The song itself is about a toxic push/pull relationship, though I wrote it in an overall happy period in my life..the song is emotive and sometimes dark so I wanted the visual to portray that but in a beautiful, intense, cinematic and poetic way to match the downtempo 90’s feel of the song.” Beautifully cinematic is exactly what the visuals are, offering an immaculate portrayal of the intensity of emotions tied to the passion, longing, and heartbreak that is exuded in the song.
Xhoana X is an artist on the rise that commands undivided attention with her bold style, fluid sounds and artful concepts that are thought provoking as they are mesmerizing.
Her raw talent comes from “an upbringing of one of the most tolerant spiritual cultures in the world, comes a unique style of art, with a mixture of freedom, rebellion and heroism.” With much more music to come, we can’t wait to hear what’s next for the talented artist.
